Orphanages are places where children who are abandoned or orphaned live. They provide care and protection for these kids. In Ukraine also called 'Internat'.
Chernivtsi is a city in Ukraine. There are over 10 orphanages in Chernivtsi. These orphanages are usually run by goverments organizations. The orphans stay at the orphanages until they turn 18 years old. After that they can get their own apartment, but unfortunately in Ukraine this is practically not done. Very few orphans manage to get an apartment as property
There are several reasons why parents abandon their babies. Some of them include poverty, abuse, neglect, and lack of support from family members. If you want to adopt a child, you should check out the adoption laws in your country.
Who should take care of children?
Parents, of course. But what to do when there are no parents? The main role here is played by the state, which should take care of orphaned children. And it seems that the state is doing this and is trying to do something about it.
For example, there is a program, according to which by 2026 all orphanages should be transformed into family-type orphanages. But it's not that simple. Experiments with this format have so far come to nothing.
Foreign Minister Culeba says he has a detailed plan to replace orphanages with an integrated system linking social workers, support centers, and foster families.
The system is based on reforms already implemented with EU support in Romania and Bulgaria. Kuleba wants to end the centralized care system, instead offering disadvantaged families various forms of support, such as investing in affordable municipal education and medicine.
