Meet Georgiy: Odesa Orphan With a Mission to Rebuild His Country
Georgiy P. was born in 2008 in Odesa, Ukraine. He grew up in a troubled home — his mother struggled with alcohol and passed away while he was still young, leaving him to be raised by his grandmother.
From Neglect and an Orphanage to College
For a while, life with his grandmother was stable. But as her health declined, everything changed. She was hospitalized in a psychiatric facility, and when she returned, she too turned to alcohol. She began locking Georgiy inside the apartment and withholding food. It was the neighbors who stepped in — calling child protective services and ensuring he was placed in an orphanage.
It was there that he met "Mama Ira." Ira took Georgiy into her family as a foster child, and suddenly he had something he had never truly had before: a home, a mother, and seven brothers.
Today they live together as a tight-knit family, united by shared hardship and mutual gratitude for the woman who changed all of their lives.
In school, Georgiy was a good student. He loved cars and played basketball. After finishing 9th grade in 2023, he enrolled in a military academy, inspired by his older brother Anatoliy who serves in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. But repeated health issues made it impossible to continue, and after honest reflection, he transferred back to a civilian school and completed 11th grade.
In 2025, Georgiy graduated and enrolled in the Mechanical and Technological College in Odesa, studying electromechanics. His goal is clear and deeply personal: when the war ends, he wants to help rebuild Ukraine's electrical infrastructure — restoring power to a country that has endured so much darkness.
He dreams of peace. He dreams of becoming a skilled specialist, building a career, and one day providing for a family of his own.
Georgiy is applying to join the UAC student support program with a genuine promise: to study hard, behave with integrity, and honor every rule of the organization.
